Apple Info

GRAVENSTEIN-Labor Day/Early Sept.

Our earliest apple ...makes the finest of apple pies! and a great apple for applesauce and Apple Butter (we use this variety for our famous "Special Apple Butter" that has been enjoyed by our customers for 20 years!

MACINTOSH-Mid-September

Our most popular and New England's best selling apple. White, tender, crisp flesh that is spicy, highly aromatic and full of juice. Great for fresh eating, sauce and for baking with a softer pie filling

MACOUN
-Late September

Popular variety with remarkable taste. Offspring of Macintosh and Jersey Black varieties. Dark red over green skin with a firm white flesh which is aromatic and juicy. A true delicacy eaten fresh, also good in pies

CORTLAND-Late September

A large apple with crisp flesh that stays white when cut open. Stores well for several months in cool environment. One of New England's most popular apples. Enjoyed in pies, cider. Also a favorite for fruit salads.

EMPIRE-Early October

A cross between Red Delicious & Macintosh, Empire apples are hard, snappy, and sweet. Creamy white flesh with excellent flavor and "keepability". Enjoyed fresh, and in salads and sauces

NORTHERN SPY-Late October/November

A favorite old-time apple with yellowish-white flesh that is juicy, sweetly tart, with high vitamin C content. Properly stored fruit can keep into spring. This variety is increasingly rare, because it often takes six years for trees to bear fruit, and then they can be kind of difficult to produce annual crops. Treasured as a pie apple or for fresh eating and salads.

GOLDEN DELICIOUS-Late October

A lovely crisp and tangy apple...our New England climate makes them a little more tangy sweet than the ones you get in the grocery store.

SPARTAN-October

A cross between a MacIntosh and a Yellow Newton...and a smaller size apple with a great sweet flavor. Tends to be a little smaller and has an all-over purple-ish hue.

RED DELICIOUS-Late October

A firm eating apple with the distictive shape so well known. Yellowish flesh and sweet taste!

POUND SWEET-October

An old time variety that was here when we reclaimed this old orchard....A very large size apple that is often mistaken for Granny Smith as it has the same color...but this is a very unique old apple prized for baking whole for dessert!
